East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine was established in 1977 as the East Carolina University School of Medicine. The school was founded to serve the citizens of eastern North Carolina and to provide medical education and research opportunities for students in the region. In 1981, the school received accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, making it one of only four medical schools in North Carolina. Since then, the school has grown significantly, adding new buildings and expanding its curriculum to include new specialties. The Brody School of Medicine now offers degrees in medicine, dentistry, nursing, physician assistant studies and public health. It also offers a variety of residency programs and clinical research opportunities for its students. In addition to providing medical education and training, the Brody School of Medicine is committed to providing quality patient care through its network of hospitals and clinics located throughout eastern North Carolina.
