The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine was founded in 1879, making it one of the oldest medical schools in the United States. The school was originally affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was part of the university’s original medical department. At that time, there were only two faculty members and a single medical student. Since then, the school has grown to include more than 500 full-time faculty members and over 1,000 students enrolled in its MD program.
