The Wake Forest University School of Medicine was founded in 1902 as the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, named for the benefactor who made its founding possible. The school was initially affiliated with the Wake Forest College and was located in Wake Forest, North Carolina. In 1941, the school moved to Winston-Salem and became an integral part of the newly formed Wake Forest University. In 1969, the Bowman Gray name was dropped in favor of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most respected medical schools in the country.
