University of Virginia School of Medicine

The University of Virginia School of Medicine was founded in 1819 as the first medical school in the state. It was chartered by Thomas Jefferson and had a small faculty of seven professors. The school began with a focus on medical education, and soon became one of the top medical schools in the nation. In 1826, the school added a pharmacy department, making it one of the first schools to offer both medicine and pharmacy degrees. The school continued to grow over the years, adding more departments and expanding its curriculum. By 1900, it had become one of the most respected medical schools in America. In 1920, it became part of the University of Virginia system and became known as UVA Medical School. Since then, UVA has been at the forefront of medical research and education, training thousands of physicians who have gone on to become leaders in their fields. Today, UVA Medical School is home to nearly 800 faculty members and more than 3,000 students annually who are dedicated to providing world-class healthcare for patients across Virginia and beyond. Check topschoolsintheusa for medical schools in Indiana.
