The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine was founded in 1765 as the first medical school in the United States. It was established by a group of physicians and surgeons from Philadelphia, who had been trained in Europe. The school’s mission was to provide quality medical education for the citizens of Philadelphia and beyond. In 1791, it became part of the University of Pennsylvania and continued to develop as one of the foremost medical schools in the nation.
