The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) was founded in 1978 as the first osteopathic medical school in New England. The school was established to provide quality medical education to its students and to promote the practice of osteopathic medicine throughout the region. The school’s mission is to educate and train competent, caring, and compassionate osteopathic physicians who will serve their communities with excellence and integrity.
UNECOM has grown significantly over the years, expanding both its physical facilities and its academic offerings. In 2000, UNECOM opened a new campus in Biddeford, Maine. This new campus expanded the college’s educational offerings with a focus on rural health care needs and public health issues. In addition to offering various degrees in osteopathic medicine, UNECOM also offers degrees in public health, nutrition science, biomedical sciences, health sciences, and physician assistant studies. The college also offers certificate programs in geriatrics and family medicine.
