The University of Maryland School of Medicine was founded in 1807 and is the first public medical school in the United States. It was initially established as the College of Medicine of Maryland and was located at the corner of Baltimore and Paca Streets. In 1812, it was renamed the University of Maryland. The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) is a highly competitive medical school that strives to provide the best medical education.
