The University of Colorado School of Medicine was founded in 1883 in Boulder, Colorado as the Colorado Territorial Medical School. It was founded by Dr. Edward R. Taylor, who had studied medicine at Harvard and had a passion for teaching medical students in the West. Initially, classes were held in a small room on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, with just two students enrolled. By 1891, enrollment had grown to 24 students and the school moved to its first dedicated building on campus. The school became part of the University of Denver in 1898, and then moved back to Boulder in 1912 after a successful campaign to make it part of the University of Colorado system. The medical school’s first dean was Dr. Charles Denison, who served from 1913 until his retirement in 1942. During this time he established an academic program that included clinical training as well as research opportunities for medical students. In 1960, the University of Colorado School of Medicine opened its doors at its current location on East 9th Avenue near downtown Denver. Since then it has become one of the top medical schools in the nation with over 1,000 faculty members and more than 2,500 students enrolled each year. The school offers a variety of degree programs ranging from undergraduate degrees to MD/PhD programs and residency training programs that prepare graduates for careers as physicians or researchers all over the world.

Places are offered to the applicants who are the most highly qualified in terms of intellectual growth and achievement, character, motivation and maturity.
