The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine was established in 1968 as the Medical School at the University of California, San Diego. The school was founded on the belief that medical education should be based on a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. The school has grown from its original faculty of 13 to over 1,500 faculty members today. The school has also grown from offering only medical degree programs to offering degrees in a variety of disciplines such as public health, bioengineering, and clinical research. Throughout its history, the school has been dedicated to providing outstanding medical education and research opportunities for its students. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, the UCSD School of Medicine also offers a wide range of clinical experiences through partnerships with local hospitals and clinics. This allows students to gain hands-on experience in patient care while still learning under the guidance of expert faculty members. Today, UCSD is recognized as one of the top medical schools in the nation and has been consistently ranked among the best by U.S News & World Report since 2009.
