Representations of Turkey in Germany
On October 30, 2012, the embassy moved to its new, large and prestigious building on Tiergartenstrasse – corner of Hildebrandstrasse in the old diplomatic quarter. It lies between that of South Africa and Italy. At the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the then German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle were present.
The embassy building is the largest in Turkey in the world – it cost around € 30 million. It consists of two wings connected by an atrium, which are intended to symbolize Turkey’s geographical location between Asia and Europe. The planning for the building came from the Berlin architects nsh (Volkmar Nickol, Felipe Schmidt, Thomas Hillig).
