Formalities, visas
The following applies to German citizens:
Upon entry, visitors must show a valid passport, a return or onward travel ticket and accommodation in a hotel or a declaration of commitment from a person residing in Nauru. A 30-day visa will then be issued. In addition to the declaration of commitment from the private individual, business travelers must also present that of a local company. The Consulate General in Melbourne/ Australia should be contacted in good time with regard to a business visa.
If they continue their journey within three days, travelers do not need a visa.
Import and export of goods
The import and export of weapons, ammunition or explosives is strictly prohibited. In addition, the import and export of plants and animals protected under the Washington Species Protection Act is prohibited. Violation can result in severe penalties.
Duty-free
The German Foreign Office advises:
Visitors should contact the Nauruan customs authorities or a foreign representation of the Republic of Nauru directly if they want to import or export other goods as small gifts. This is especially true for food, animals and pornographic material. General export bans result from the “International Endangered Species Act” and the “National Historic Preservation Act” (law on national historical cultural assets).

How do you get to Nauru?
The best way to get to Nauru is by plane with Air Nauru. The airline connects the island with Fiji and Australia (Brisbane and Melbourne).
Travel in the country
Bus
There is a well-functioning bus network.
Railway
There are around 5 km of narrow-gauge railway tracks for transporting the phosphate from the mine dumps to the processing plant in Aiwo and the collection point in Anibare.
Roads
Nauru has a road network with a length of 30 km, of which about 24 km are tarred.
Rental car
A car can be rented on presentation of a driver’s license.

Nauru: travel medicine, vaccinations and warnings
Infectious diseases
In Nauru, the following diseases, which are not or only sporadically widespread in Germany and Northern Europe – mainly due to contaminated water and various foods – can be expected:
- Malaria, there is no risk of malaria
- Dengue fever
- various intestinal diseasessuch as amoeba, shigella, worm infestation, lamblia or salmonella
- Filariasis
- Polio, polio
- Typhoid, only in travelers who may come into contact with polluted water or contaminated food.
Vaccination Recommendations Vaccinations are recommended against the following diseases:
- Diphtheria, a vaccination against diphtheria should always exist, also in the home country.
- Hepatitis A

The Bank of Nauru often finds it difficult to exchange money due to a lack of cash! There are no ATMs!

On Nauru you can buy traditional handicrafts. There are also phosphate stones or souvenirs made of phosphate rock.
Nauru: Well-known people
- Auweyida 1850 – approx. 1921, was the last Naurian king who ruled until the colonial powers took over.
- Alois Kayser March 29, 1877 – October 21, 1944, was a Catholic missionary who came to the island in 1904. He also wrote a grammar on the Naurian language.
- Hammer DeRoburt 1922-1992 , was the founding president of the Republic of Nauru.
