Montserrat: arrival and transport
How do you get to Montserrat?
Airplane
After the old airport sank under a blanket of ash, Princess Anne opened the new John A. Osborne airport on the northern half of the island in February 2005.
There are no direct flights to the island from Europe. The best way to fly is via Antigua, from where WinAir is currently the only one to fly to Montserrat several times a day. The flight takes around 20 minutes. Since March 2001 the company SVG (St. Vincent & Grenadines Based Airline) has been flying to and from Antigua to Motserrat twice a day.
You can fly to Antigua from Europe with British Airways, Lufthansa, Swiss or British Midland Airways, for example
Ferry, catamaran
The port of Little Bay on Montserrat and Heritage Quay on Antigua are connected by a catamaran, which takes about an hour for the journey.

The largest harbor is Little Bay in the northwest of the island. Water sports enthusiasts can charter sailing ships and motor boats here.
Cars and roads
All larger towns can be reached via asphalt roads with a total length of around 200 km. You can rent a car from private individuals for around US $ 50 a day – with a driver it costs around US $ 20 an hour. But you can also rent a car through rental agencies.

On the main routes there are private minibuses that can also be hired for excursions. Since there are no designated stops, you show with a hand that you want to be taken.

During the day there are taxis that have fixed prices for a number of routes. The best thing to do is to clarify the price before starting your journey.

Representations of Montserrat in Germany
Since Montserrat is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the island is diplomatically represented by Great Britain in Germany.
The present British embassy building was built on the site of the old British embassy, which was damaged by bombs during the war and completely destroyed by fire after the war. The remains were later removed by the GDR authorities, and the property was fallow until 1998. The plans for today’s embassy building come from the architecture firm Michael Wilford & Partners, London and Stuttgart, which had previously won a competition. The embassy was officially inaugurated on July 18, 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II. The building is located at the beginning of Wilhelmstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate. This part of the street is closed to motor vehicle traffic for safety reasons.
