Entry and exit regulations
Formalities, visas
In addition to a valid passport, a visa is required to enter Kazakhstan, which must be applied for at the embassy visa department before departure.
When applying for one-off business, official, private and tourist visas, no invitations are required.
Visas for multiple (only for business and official trips) entry and exit to Kazakhstan are issued on the basis of an invitation from the Kazakh partner and the confirmation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Transit visas for transit by rail/car are issued upon presentation of the visa from the third country. If a stay in Kazakhstan is planned, a tourist, private or business visa is required.
The following documents must be present for a visa to be issued:
A valid passport that has to be valid for at least another 6 months A child’s ID card for every child who is not entered in the parents’ passport A completed and signed application form with a current passport photo A deposit receipt for the processing fee paid (original) or a check-in franked Envelope if the documents were sent by post
Customs control
A customs declaration must be completed upon entry, which is available on board the aircraft or on arrival at the airport or at the border station. A corresponding note is made on the declaration during customs control. The declaration must be kept until the end of the journey and presented to customs when leaving the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For the transport of pets, documents for the animal and a veterinary certificate with a translation into Kazakh or Russian are required
Currency
The import and export of foreign currency is not restricted, but it must be declared when entering and leaving the country. The amount executed may not exceed the amount declared upon entry.
Exchange is possible in the large hotels and in bank exchange offices. Credit cards are accepted in the larger hotels and restaurants. In the meantime there are also occasional ATMs.
Import and export of goods
The import of weapons, ammunition, explosives, drugs (narcotics), poisons and other powerful substances, as well as pornography is strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the import and export of plants and animals protected under the Washington Convention on Endangered Species is prohibited.

Transportation
railroad
The approximately 14,600 km rail network is one of the most important transport systems in the country, for both freight and passenger traffic.
Tickets must be purchased prior to travel. It is not possible to buy tickets on the train.
Some international connections, e.g. the train connection to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), is z. Currently interrupted for political reasons.
Streets
The entire road network covers around 83,000 km, of which around 17,000 are of national importance.
Rental car
In all larger cities it is possible (and recommended) to rent a rental car with a driver (e.g. in front of the train stations or through a hotel). The price is a matter of negotiation.
Taxis: Even in the larger cities there are either no or very few regular taxis. It is therefore common everywhere to stop cars driving by by waving your arm. Many car drivers who want to earn extra income stop. Here, too, the price is a matter of negotiation. It is common practice for drivers to try to get foreigners a multiple of the price that locals pay.
Ship connections
The main sea ports in the country are Aktau and Bautin, which allow direct shipping connections to Iran and Azerbaijan.
Flight connections
Astana and Almaty are served by various airlines, including Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish Airlines and British Airways. Lufthansa and the Kazakh Air Astana fly from Frankfurt and Hanover to Astana and Almaty.
