How to get to Curacao
From Hato Airport on Curacao there are daily direct connections to Amsterdam, Miami, Sint Maarten, to various Caribbean islands, to various cities in Venezuela and to Bogotá in Colombia. The KLM airline flies daily from Amsterdam to Curaçao. “Martinair”, which belongs to KLM, and ArkeFly also offer flights from Amsterdam to Curaçao several times a week.
Hato International Airport is located around 12 km north of Willemstad. There is a bus and taxi stand there. The buses run to Willemstad city center from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. – they take about 45 minutes for the route. There are duty-free shops, other shops, a restaurant, a bank, a post office and a rental car counter at the airport. The traveler will also find a tourist information office here.

Buses
The buses on Curacao connect almost all places with each other. There are two types of buses. The yellow or blue buses called convoy and the minibuses with the number plate “BUS”. In addition, numerous hotels have their own minibus services to and from Willemstad. The convoys travel the longer routes. Larger bus stations are located at the post office and at Waaigat in the Punda district of Wilhelmstad, and next to the viaduct in Otrobanda.
Taxis
Taxis can be recognized by the “TX” on their license plate and the word “Taxi” on the roof. To avoid arguments, the price should be agreed before the journey, although almost all taxis are equipped with a taximeter. Taxis can be found at the airport or in front of the larger hotels. In Willemstad there are also inexpensive tuk-tuks – motorized rickshaws.
The Dutch Antilles Express airline connects Curaçao with Aruba and Bonaire – each with a flight time of around 30 minutes.

Rental
cars Rental cars can already be obtained at the airport, in hotels or in Willemstad. Motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and bicycles can also be rented. An “International Driver’s License” is required. The maximum speed is 45 km/h within the localities and between 60 and 80 km/h outside.

The “Caribbean guilder” has been the official currency on Curaçao and Sint Maarten since January 1st, 2012 and replaces the old currency of the “Antilles guilder” with a ratio of 1: 1.

Representations of Curacao in Germany
Although Curacao is an independent part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the island state is represented in Germany by the Dutch embassy in Berlin. The embassy building is located on the Spree near the Fischerinsel in Berlin-Mitte. It was officially opened on March 2, 2004.
The designs for the building come from the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, born in Rotterdam in 1944, and his office OMA/AMO. In the middle of the picture you can see part of the Berlin TV tower on Alexanderplatz.

Curacao: entry and exit regulations
Formalities, visas
German, Swiss and Austrian citizens need a passport to enter Curacao, which must be valid for at least six months after the date of entry. No visa is required for tourists for a period of up to 90 days, but an onward or return flight ticket is required.
Vaccination regulations
All persons who are older than six months and who arrive six days after a stay in a yellow fever infection area designated by the WHO are required to be vaccinated against a yellow fever disease.
Travelers who have not left the transit area in the infected areas and transit passengers who do not leave the airport on Curaçao are exempt from this vaccination requirement.

The following infectious diseases can be expected on Curacao:

Yellow fever vaccination of children
A vaccination against yellow fever had a number of side effects, such as encephalitis. Around two thirds of those affected were children under 6 months. Therefore, under no circumstances should children under this age be vaccinated. But children under one year of age should also not be vaccinated if possible. If in doubt, yellow fever infection areas must then be avoided.
