How do you get to the Bahamas?
The Bahamas can usually be reached from Germany by plane. but also numerous cruise ships moor there for a short stopover.

Passenger ships and ferries operate the following routes:

From Nassau there are still direct connections to the USA, the West Indies, Great Britain and South America.
Travel in the country
Airplane
Island hopping by airplane is ideal between the important islands. The view of the archipelago from above is worth the flight alone. Bahamasair, Abaco Air, Cat Island Air Ltd, Cherokee, Flamingo Air, Major’s Air Charter, Southern Air Charter and Take Flight Charter offer island hopping.
Bus
Jitney is the name of the regular bus service that can be used to take tours of the large islands such as New Providence and Grand Bahama. The buses only run during the day.
Boats
To visit uninhabited or small islets, it is best to rent a boat. Several times a week there is also a mail boat from Nassau to Freeport/ Grand Bahama Island. The road network is excellent. However, there is left-hand traffic.
Car, rental
car Rental cars are very popular in the Bahamas. However, the driver must be over 21 years old, a national driver’s license is sufficient, but a credit card is required.

Formalities, visas
Tourists are only allowed to enter the country if they have a return ticket and sufficient financial means to finance their stay in the country themselves. When entering Germany with a passport that must be valid for 6 months, German citizens usually receive a visa valid for three months. Requests for a longer stay must be directed to the Immigration Office. Children’s ID cards are recognized. If the entry is via the USA, a machine-readable passport (also for the children) must be available.

The currency of the Bahamas is the Bahamian dollar:
1 Bahamian dollar = 100 cents
The US dollar is also accepted as an official form of payment, as the Bahamian dollar is pegged to the US dollar.

Compulsory vaccination
There is a compulsory vaccination against a yellow fever disease for all persons who come from an area of yellow fever infected by the WHO.
- Yellow fever vaccination of children
In most countries where a yellow fever vaccination is mandatory, this also applies to children over a year old, in some countries even from six months.
