The Relationship Between Brothers and Infant Feeding and Risk of Obesity

Research published in the journal Pediatrics indicates that children with brothers or sisters with ages close to have a lower risk of suffer from obesity.

Brothers and Infant Feeding

Even though it may seem strange, there is indeed a connection between the relationship between brothers and infant feeding. The relationship between brothers is a common theme of scientific research, but most of the time to the study of complicity, fights and personality of each one.

This time, the research published in the journal Pediatrics, says that children who have siblings with ages close to, they are less likely to become obese.

This research was the sample of 697 children of the United States of America, analysed the body mass of each an every three months during the first six years of life.

The results allowed to conclude that the children who had a sibling between the two and the four years of life, were able to obtain the body mass index of more healthy when compared with the remaining children.

It was also possible to conclude that children who do not have any brother finished the study with three times the probability of becoming obese, compared with the other.

Although this study is not to present conclusions as to the factors that contribute for this to happen, there are some possibilities “on the table”.

In the first place, there are always genetic and environmental factors, which may cause a child to become obese. Most of these factors are related with diets hipercalóricas allied to inactivity.

A possible explanation for the result of the search is the fact that to have the second child (or subsequent), the parents are now better prepared and informed, getting this way that the child eat better in quality and also quantity, since a large percentage of the parents feed the first child with amounts caloric above is necessary, due to the concern that the child is not eating enough.

Another possible explanation is that the older brother can be, in the great majority of cases, a good example for the child, achieving in this way to benefit not only the smallest but also the own. The fact that they are more than one child in the same space is also reflected very much in play, it is two (or more) children together are going to do with that there is much more play and exercise, helping to combat a sedentary lifestyle.

The children are the mirror of what the parents do. Not only because you are able to see and hear, but also by the fact that the parents are normally the main partners of the joke. In addition to feed their children with a varied and balanced diet, it is very important to have activities that contribute to a routine more healthy, especially if they are outdoor activities.

There are numerous these activities such as biking, playing ball, strolling, or just go to the playground. If you have children with ages close, these activities will be likely more frequent, and together will contribute to play healthier for everyone.

This study, published in the journal Pediatrics, concludes that having a brother with an age close to the age it is a help to avoid and reduce the risk of obesity. However, if you only have a son, do not alarm, for it is not by the fact of having only one child that the child will suffer from this problem.

The study performed is only statistical, and are described above the possible explanations for the findings of the same. The important thing is to promote healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating a balanced diet and the regular practice of physical activity. These habits will help your children not only in small but also in the future, since these habits can follow them for a long time, and even for the rest of your life.
