Over the course of the 19th century, the region changed hands several times between Spain and the United States before finally becoming a permanent part of the US in 1821. The district covers over 500 square miles and includes a number of smaller communities such as Port St. Joe, Wewahitchka, and White City. Gulf District Schools provides students with a variety of educational opportunities including traditional classrooms, virtual learning programs, and specialized programs such as the International Baccalaureate Program. Gulf District Schools strives to provide its students with an excellent education that will prepare them for college or career success. The district offers a wide range of courses from basic academics to more advanced classes that include foreign language studies and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Additionally, the district has various extracurricular activities such as sports teams, clubs, and other activities that allow students to explore their interests outside of the classroom. Gulf District Schools also emphasizes community involvement by providing access to resources and support services for families within the community. These services include after-school programs, health care centers, homeless shelters, food pantries, and more.
