According to topschoolsoflaw, Drew County is located in southeastern Arkansas, and is one of the oldest counties in the state. It was founded in 1846 and named after Thomas Drew, the 3rd Governor of Arkansas. The county is home to a variety of historically significant sites such as Old Davidsonville State Park, the site of what was once a thriving river port town on the Black River. The area that would become Drew County was first settled by Native Americans around 10,000 years ago. Later it was inhabited by French and Spanish settlers who established trading posts and missions throughout the region. During the Civil War, Drew County saw several battles between Confederate and Union forces which ultimately resulted in a Confederate victory at Marks’ Mill in 1864. Since its establishment, Drew County has been an agricultural hub for the state with cotton being one of its primary crops for much of its history. However, over time other industries such as logging and timber production have come to dominate the local economy. In recent years there has also been an increase in tourism due to its proximity to several state parks including Lake Monticello State Park and Logoly State Park which offer recreational activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, boating and more. Drew County has also seen a great deal of growth over time with its population increasing from 21,000 inhabitants in 2000 to 34,000 by 2018. This growth is largely attributed to new businesses moving into the area as well as an influx of immigrants from other parts of Arkansas and beyond looking for work opportunities or better educational facilities for their children. The school district of Drew County, Arkansas is comprised of five public school districts that provide education to students from kindergarten through grade 12. These include the Monticello School District, which serves the majority of the county’s population; the Wilmar School District; the Rison School District; the Tillar-Waldron School District; and the Star City School District. The Monticello School District serves more than 3,400 students and is one of the largest districts in Arkansas. It operates six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The district also provides a number of special programs such as advanced placement courses, dual enrollment courses, gifted and talented programs, career and technical education classes and more. The Wilmar School District covers an area just south of Monticello as well as part of Jefferson County. It operates two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school which serve around 1,100 students in total. The district also offers a variety of special programs including advanced placement courses, dual enrollment classes, career and technical education classes as well as gifted and talented programs.
