Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine

Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine was founded in 1887 as the University of Oregon Medical School. The school was initially established as a two-year medical program, but in 1912 it was extended to a four-year program. In 1919, the school opened its first hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and moved to its current location on Marquam Hill in 1931. Over the years, the school has grown to include seven major departments: Anatomy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Pediatrics and Surgery. The school has also established numerous research centers focusing on topics such as cancer biology and genetics. Since its founding more than 130 years ago, Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine has graduated more than 9800 physicians from its Doctor of Medicine degree program. Today it is one of the most highly regarded medical schools in the country with an emphasis on research that helps drive advances in patient care.
