Georgetown University School of Medicine was founded in 1851 and is the oldest Catholic medical school in the United States. The school was founded by Bishop John Carroll, who had been inspired by a Jesuit priest to open a medical school in Washington, D.C. The original faculty consisted of four professors and two students. Over the years, the school has grown substantially and now offers a variety of programs including MD, PhD, MS, MPH and certificate programs.
