Fashion Revolution Week Porto Alegre Discusses The Productive Chain Of Fashion

Have you ever wondered who, after all, made the clothes you’re wearing? To rethink the production chain of fashion did Fashion Revolution Day, an event that comes to Porto Alegre from 16 to 20 April. Besides the Capital City worldwide mobilisation will also have activities in 15 other cities.

— The idea is to get more information and consequent consumer awareness, so you can choose and value clothes manufactured from ethical processes — explains the Coordinator of the Center for sustainable fashion of UFRGS, Joshua Anicet, one of the hosts of the event in the city.

— In addition, the idea is to spread the concept and awareness to get the origin of how the clothes are produced, in addition to the colleges, the designers and the fashion industry. We want to reach the general population, people of different social classes and ages, who need to understand what’s behind what each wears —, complements the doctoral candidate Ks Weydmann Camargo, a researcher at the Center for sustainable fashion of UFRGS, who organized the event and was responsible for the coordination of the activities of the Fashion Revolution Week in Porto Alegre.

Here, one of the main talks is scheduled for this Sunday, next to the Brick of Desapegos, thrift store in collective Solar owl (Riachuelo, 525). With the theme Slow Fashion in practice, the chat will have the presence of sustainable brands Ada, Handmade Skies, Shieldmaiden and The Blue Crafters. On Tuesday, the talk is about conscious consumption with professionals and academics at the school of architecture of UFRGS.

Where Did It Come From?

The Fashion Revolution was born after a tragedy that shook the world. On 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh, collapsed. The building housed clothing of some of the most important brands in the world. The balance of the disaster was the death of 1,133 employees and approximately 2,500 people gravamente wounds. This was the starting point for two activists and sustainable fashion designers, Carry Sommers and Orsola de Castro, created the Fashion Revolution movement and make the date a milestone.

In London, the campaign spread to the world. In addition to activities such as lectures, fashion shows and exhibitions, the motion proposes a campaign on social networks. The idea is to encourage consumers to all countries the dress inside out, showing the label and ask: “who did my my clothes?”. In 2015, the official hashtag #whomademyclothes 26.5 billion was used in the world. This year, the campaign should grow even more. This mobilization and use the hashtag #whomademyclothes officer and additional #fashrev and #quemfezminhasroupas.
