The camera Digital Canon flagship evolves slowly, introducing the adjustable screen in the heart of the range.
Year photo starts strong with the presentation of the new flagship of Canon, the EOS 600 d case. Heir of the first range of SLR in the world to pass below the € 1,000 (series three-digit: EOS 300 d, 350 d, 400 d, 450 d, 500 d, 550 d), the seventh child of the lineage relies in part on its big brother, the 60 d, which he took over the main features: a 18 Mpix CMOS sensor, Digic IV processor and a swivel screen inherited the compact PowerShot experts.

According to themotorcyclers, the big news is of course the screen we talked you about the test of the 60 d. A steerable 7.6 m screen diagonal, with 1 million points – 1 040 000 to be precise-, a slab anti-reflective, indispensable when using the camera in video mode. True to the range of SLR cameras since the 5 d Mark II, this EOS 600 d obviously filmed in Full HD 1080 p (1920 x 1 080 points to 25 or 30 frames per second), a video mode among the market’s top performers.
In addition to the legacy of the 60 d, new 600 d takes advantage of the measuring mode iFCL 63 points to the very serious EOS 7 d, based on nine AF points on the cross in order to properly evaluate the exhibition of the photographs and to manage the autofocus, even on dynamic subjects.
Smart auto mode
If it was bad language, looks like mode Auto Intelligent Scene of 600 d is a legacy of the compact Panasonic (Panasonic’s intelligent Auto mode), which adjusts the settings according to the type of detected scene – portrait, landscape, etc. – and not according to the measured light. (Finally!) adds a panel of creative modes, shamefully inspired by those of Olympus. We find simulations of a fisheye lens-a lens ultra wide-angle very distorting and rather expensive-optics to tilt and shift (effect model) or some toys cameras-cameras photo plastic also random than artistic renderings.
And both black and white, a trashy (with a lot of grain), the other nice (mild). It should be noted that, contrary to an Olympus, the effect is not to the shooting but in post-processing, within the case. Too bad, because the very public prefer to see what will capture without having to go through the menus to add the effects!
Digital zoom in video
Side video, if the recorded sound is mono – an external microphone jack is available in stereo-, a friendly innovation made its appearance: the digital zoom in the image, x 3 or x 10 without loss of definition since the video remains in Full HD format. Which is much better than with the 60 d, which had this function only in VGA (640 x 480 points). If there is little doubt that this function will be close to the unusable Freehand, however it is a nice step forward for use on foot. Videographers should enjoy, including the friends of our friends the animals.
For the public, Canon introduced the Snapshot function: from its range of camcorders, it limits capture clips in 2, 4 or 8 seconds in order to facilitate the work of editing – or how to avoid that wedding videos take the 32 GB of memory card…
Flash control, new basic optics, anemic burst
Unlike his predecessors in the same category, 600 d can drive wireless flashes. It’s rare enough on the entry level to emphasize. Side piece of glass, this 600 d introduced the second version of the 18-55 mm optics stabilized, the EF-S 18-55 mm F3.5-5.6 IS.
We end up with disappointment: the case offers an asthmatic burst, 3.7 fps. disappointing compared to what offer Sony and Pentax on the same segment, offering less than 5 fps. price aside, it takes 799 euros the body only (Canon ad) and, apparently, 899 euros with the 18-55 mm lens.
